PROJECT: Out With The Old And In With The New

ACL Engineering recently replaced the air compressor system for a pharmaceutical company based in Oxfordshire.

DATA ANALYASIS

The first stage was an extensive data logging exercise to evaluate the performance of their existing Atlas Copco system that included 2 fixed speed and 2 variable speed GA compressors.

NEW SPECIFICATION

Following the results of data analysis, ACL put together a project proposal to provide a new and more efficient system to support their compressed air demands. This featured new state-of-the-art 3rd generation variable speed air compressors, and a Cerades Adsorption Dryer with ceramic internal design. This effectively reduced the plant from 4 machines to 2, freeing up space in the plant room for engineer workspace in process.

TURNKEY SOLUTION

ACL supplied a full turnkey solution that included:

  • 2 off new GA22VSDs air compressors (3rd Generation)
  • 2 off new CD65 Cerades adsorption dryer to meet ISO 8573-1 Class 2 specification
  • UD+ Line filters and new oil water separator
  • 1 off EQ4 sequential control system

INSTALLATION

A Hi-Ab ‘Lift and Shift’ crane was brought in to facilitate the smooth delivery of the new units, followed by a full mechanical and electrical install and the commissioning of the equipment in-situ. The process included the removal and disposal of redundant equipment.

The installation took place over a weekend to minimise downtime and disruption to their operations.

The client opted for a Guardian 7 Year service agreement to ensure the optimum performance and life span of their new system.

Outcome

The customer was very pleased with the outcome and looking foward to increased efficiency and cost reduction.

Benefits

The new solution delivers extra energy savings thanks to appropriate compressor sizing to meet the customer demands. There is a pressure dewpoint saving from dryers and the added benefit of more free space created as a result of the smaller overall footprint, allowing more work space for their on-site engineer.
